Esmerelda has arrived! InspirationSL opens TODAY!

Esmeralda, born Agnès, is a fictional character in Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. She is a French Roma girl. She constantly attracts men with her seductive dances, and is rarely seen without her clever goat Djali.

Louise Bertin and Victor Hugo collaborated to create an operatic version of Hugo's own "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (under the title "La Esmeralda"). Hugo himself adapted the novel to the stage which, in fact, makes Bertin the only composer in history to have collaborated directly with Hugo on an opera.

Many Thanks and see you in March!

As another round draws to a close, it's once again time to thank you guys, our loyal shoppers and visitors, for the continued support! You totally rock; you've liked and shared our blog posts, shopped until you dropped, and lusted after all things InspirationSL! You guys are amazing!

We'd also like to extend a massive thank you to the team at InspirationSL: designers, bloggers and management team alike! We have an amazing team here, and we couldn't have done it without you all!

We're already planning the March event, and can't wait for you to rejoin us...   Our next round will start on March the 19th and our inspiration will be Esmeralda the gypsy heroin of "Notre dame de Paris" and by extension : "Free spirits and travelers.

Uptown Girl

The Hollywood great described her style as "studied carelessness" - an attitude that resonates with today's laidback fashion icons, such as Alexa Chung and Cara Delevingne. A look Lauren remained loyal to throughout her life was a string of pearls worn over simple tops and dresses. While the necklace was previously reserved for royalty and glam grannies, Lauren helped banish the stuffy connotations, making them chic and sexy. By adding a bold red lip to casual looks - her key beauty trick - her style was never anything other than glam.

At the current round of the InspirationSL Event, we are celebrating the style.. and glam of Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. The above skirt and top by Sweet Kajira are just one of the many amazing things to be found.  So.. stop by  InspirationSL soon!  There are just a few days left before we close the doors on this round ;)

Vogue

Lauren perfected her poses so brilliantly that she was namechecked in Madonna's Vogue song.

Evening Glamour

Lauren was one of the most prolific style icons of the 40s and 50s, thanks to her effortless glamour, timeless bob and raspy drawl. On screen, the actress wore sharp, masculine suits, slinky evening gowns and striking red lipstick - all of which continue to look fabulous today. Lauren believed you shouldn't have to "do too much to clothes", just wear them.For evening, draped gowns and nipped-in waists, that were so prevalent during that era, were Lauren's go-to look. The Little Black Dress

The "little black dress" is considered essential to a complete wardrobe by many women and fashion observers, who believe it a "rule of fashion" that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion: for example, worn with a jacket and pumps for daytime business wear or with more ornate jewelry and accessories for evening. Hollywood femme fatales and fallen women characters were portrayed often in black halter-style dresses in contrast to the more conservative dresses of housewives or more wholesome Hollywood stars.
